Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer to which there is no curative treatment at this time. There are a number of treatments available, though, to help slow the progression of the cancer, alleviate the patient’s pain, and extend the patient’s life expectancy. Treatment for mesothelioma depends on a number of factors, including the location of the cancer, the stage of the disease and the patient’s age and general health. Standard treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, or a combination thereof. Additionally, some experimental treatments, including photodynamic therapy, gene therapy and immunotherapy, are beginning to show encouraging results in clinical trials.

Traditional Mesothelioma Treatments
Non-Traditional Mesothelioma Treatments
New approaches for treating mesothelioma are currently being tested and developed. It is hoped that these treatments will prove more successful than traditional treatments, but a patient must note that these treatments are still being developed and have not been fully evaluated for safety and efficacy.
