California law provides for strong protection against discrimination against pregnant women and allows leave for pregnancy- related disabilities, and time to bond with a new child or care for a sick child. However, despite the California legislature's clear attempts to protect pregnant workers from discrimination, this problem is still prevalent in the California workplace.
For example, female employees often are not promoted because employers fear they will get pregnant and leave. Female employees also are terminated when an employer learns that they are pregnant and will be taking their legally authorized maternity leave.
Pregnancy discrimination is particularly devastating to single-mothers and families who rely on their employers for health insurance. Often, female employees are left without proper medical care during their pregnancy because they were terminated solely because of their maternity.
Through our pregnancy discrimination practice, Schneider Wallace Cottrell Brayton Konecky vigorously defends the rights and protections to which female employees are entitled, serving as their counsel and advocates so they may work free from discrimination.
