The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns the public that use of the Diabetes medication Actos (Pioglitazone) for over one year may be linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer. The use of Actos has been suspended by France and Germany due to this risk.
The FDA specifically recommends that:
Pioglitazone should not be used in patients with active bladder cancer.
Use Pioglitazone with caution in patients who have a prior history of bladder cancer, adding "the benefits of blood sugar control with Pioglitazone should be weighed against the unknown risks for cancer recurrence."
Patients should report any signs or symptoms of "blood in the urine, urinary urgency, pain on urination, or back or abdominal pain, as these may be due to bladder cancer."
If it is proven that the manufacturer has failed to adequately research the risk of bladder cancer from Actos (Pioglitazone) or warn about the potential problems, compensation may be available through an Actos lawsuit for individuals diagnosed with a cancerous bladder tumor.

The attorneys at Schneider Wallace are reviewing the potential for Actos bladder cancer lawsuits. If it is proven that the manufacturers have placed their desire for profits ahead of patient safety by failing to adequately warn about the potential risk of bladder cancer, consumers diagnosed with bladder cancer may be able to obtain compensation through an Actos lawsuit.
