Schneider Wallace Cottrell Brayton Konecky LLP Investigates Consumer Claims Concerning Infant Cold and Cough Medicines

Schneider Wallace Cottrell Brayton Konecky LLP is investigating claims on behalf of consumers that cough and cold medicines are ineffective and unsafe for children under 6. On October 11, 2007 manufacturers Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, Prestige Brands Holding and Wyeth announced a market withdrawal of 14 different infant oral medicines intended and labeled for children 2 and under because of reports of overdoses resulting from misuse of the medicines in infants. The medicines are sold under the brand names Dimetapp, Pediacare, Robitussin, Triaminic and Tylenol.

On October 19, 2007 an FDA advisory committee determined that over-the-counter cough and cold medicines are ineffective and should not be used in children younger than 6. The committee held its hearing following reports of serious adverse events in children associated with the use of these products, especially in high doses.
